Dolce & Gabbana, a successful union story

Dolce & Gabbana, a successful union story – Domenico Dolce worked in his father’s clothing company and studied fashion design.

When he was still a boy he met Stefano Gabbana during a phone call to a fashion company where Gabbana used to work.

The empathy was born immediately: they met and became companions in life.

After some years they started working together.

Their debut in fashion was in 1985 when they participated in the New Talents category contest invited by Beppe Modenese.

Their clothes immediately attracted the public attention and during the following years they launched their first autumn-winter women’s collection, entitled “Real women”.

Their clothes were revolutionary and the D&G woman became seductive and mysterious, dressed in corsets, laces and petticoats.

In 1987 the first knitwear collection arrived, and the following year they signed an agreement with Saverio Dolce for the pret – a – porter production.

During 1989 in Tokyo they launched the first intimate swimwear collection, while in 1990 the menswear line was presented in New York. In ’91 the men’s collection was the most innovative of the year and it was awarded with the woolmark Award.

Meanwhile, they also launched a perfume and chose an exceptional testimonial, Madonna, who showed up at the Cannes Film Festival with a gem of Dolce & Gabbana and ordered 1500 costumes for her “Girlie Show tour”.

Stefano and Domenico continued to keep an eye on the entertainment world, designing the costumes for the film Romeo + Juliet by Baz Luhrmann. In the years 2000 their success continued and they kept to collaborate with Madonna, they draw the uniforms for the Milan players, they partnered with Motorola, they named Scarlett Johansson as a new testimonial. In 2010 they signed a three-year agreement with the English team of Abramovich.

The number of testimonials is exeptional and goes Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman, Isabella Rossellini, just to name a few.
